So sad to learn about Tom. We were lucky enough to have Tom and Joyce as neighbors, friends and adopted family. We have such fond memories of happy times we enjoyed together.

I will miss seeing you at Jenna's softball games and the loud Red Sox & Yankee discussions you & I had during the many family gatherings. You being the die hard Red Sox fan and me being the die hard Yankee fan. We each tried to get in the last snarky comment about the team's players & the games but you always seemed to get in that last remark with the help of Pat. I never had heard of the label 'Tomanisms' but thinking back, wow, the title appropriately fits to a tee. Until we meet again to continue our RS/NYY debates....Robin

“Do you have some time for a coke, was the poster we often laughed at. The one thing he did was try to put a smile on your face. He often succeeded and when he didn’t -Tomanism. I believe it was Samantha at a very young age that gave it that nick name. I could be wrong, usually am. I went to a Red Sox game with him and was bouncing questions off him the entire night on various players throughout the years. I was amazed at his knowledge of the team, a truly devoted fan. I think it was this year’s Red Sox’s season that was the reason for his illness or is that another Tomanism. I will miss his humor. I will miss us ganging up on the few Yankee fans in our family. I will miss seeing him in jeans, sneakers and a Red Sox coat. I will miss him delivering the world’s biggest pumpkin to my kids. I will miss his laugh. I knew at Christmas he would give my son a Hess truck. Michael would rip it open and make me put the batteries in it right away and play with him. I never had a chance to thank him for the memories he gave me of that time with my son. A memory I often revert to when I am feeling down about life. He was a good man that I am happy I had the pleasure to know. He will be missed. Tell a few jokes to my dad and son. Keep them clean for Michael.

I had the opportunity to sit with Tom during his first and only chemo treatment and one time while he was sitting (rather impatiently) for 2 hrs getting some IV fluids. He didnt realize I took his picture with my iPad. He ask if I could watch football and baseball games on the iPad and otherwise what good was it? Technology was definately not Tom's strong point - he said he was perfectly fine with his flip cellphone. I will always remember Tom for his kind heart which did shine through his often "Grumpy" exterior which was exactly why he earned a Grumpy sweatshirt souvenir from WDW! I recently learned that he'd literally wore that sweatshirt out! Things I remember about Tom - Red Sox, Giants, Pistachios, Yaz, Hess Trucks, Sweatshirts and Sweatpants, Tomanisms and Coca Cola

Many of you knew Tom as someone who cared deeply about his families but sometimes didn't know how to show it. He loved telling jokes; some were greatly funny others not, but no matter when he told them he'd have the biggest grin on his face and it would just crack you up; hence "Tomanisms." There wasn't a game he missed when it came to the Boston Red Sox or the NY Giants and he loved Carl Yastrzemski. He even named his newest dog "Yaz." He was a kind-hearted man with a tough exterior. Although I had not been married to Tom since 1/08, over the years since we worked at just being nice to each other and I cherish and treasure the fact that we could do that. His diseases got the best of him in too short of a time and I do believe he passed away peacefully at home, his dog by his side. His suffering has ended now; may he rest in peace--finally.
